We carefully preserved the charm of the original drawing while refining it for stitch, translating crayon strokes into layered thread and soft outlines. The artwork was then scaled and embroidered onto matching mother-daughter T-shirts, transforming a sweet childhood sketch into a wearable keepsake that celebrates creativity, connection, and shared memories.

Flannel shirt featuring custom embroidery directly inspired by the owner’s personal collection of florals and insects. Each botanical and winged detail was carefully translated into stitch, preserving natural movement and organic linework. From tablewear to towels and shirts

My client loved her Portmeirion botanical tableware and wanted to bring that same feeling into wearable and home textiles. We began by studying the individual plate illustrations — the florals, butterflies, moths, ladybugs, and delicate greenery — paying close attention to scale, color balance, and the natural flow of each composition.

For the kitchen towels, we translated the artwork more directly. Each towel features a focused botanical moment: a single floral cluster, a butterfly with companion insects, or a bloom with foliage — echoing the clarity and placement style of the original plates. The goal was to preserve that “botanical study” feel, allowing each design to stand beautifully on its own.

For the flannel shirts, we approached the artwork differently. Rather than isolating one illustration, we created a curated collection of elements from across the plates. Florals, insects, and leaves were digitized individually, then thoughtfully layered and entwined to form a flowing, organic composition that moves across the garment. The result feels abundant and immersive — like stepping inside the garden itself — while still honoring the original inspiration.

The final pieces transform classic tableware motifs into cohesive embroidered textiles, blending heritage botanical illustration with modern wearable design.
